When we communicate, our words convey only a fraction of the message. Research by Albert Mehrabian famously demonstrated that in communication of feelings and attitudes, approximately 55% of the message is conveyed through facial expression and body language, 38% through tone of voice, and only 7% through the actual words spoken . This makes nonverbal communication—the silent language of gestures, postures, facial expressions, and spatial behaviors—essential to understanding and being understood.
This foundation course provides a comprehensive introduction to body language and behavioral insights. Drawing on decades of research in psychology, anthropology, and neuroscience, you will explore the fundamental principles of nonverbal communication, learn to recognize and interpret common cues, understand cultural variations, and develop skills for enhancing your own nonverbal presence. Through authentic examples, observation exercises, and practical applications, you will build the knowledge and awareness to navigate social interactions with greater confidence and insight.
